Ajobless man has been accused in court of raiding an electronics company, posing as a policeman with four culprits and stealing Dh315,000 in cash and mobiles in November 2015.

An Indian businessman was present in his first-floor company when a gang of five men stormed into the flat as two of them were shouting ‘police … police’ in Naif area.

The five men, who according to records wore Pakistani national dress, beat up the Indian businessman and ripped off his shirt, and made a rope out of it to tie up the man and muzzle him.

The gang of five men were said to have threatened the businessman at knifepoint and stolen Dh165,000 in cash from a drawer and Dh150,000 worth of new mobile devices.

After they absconded, the Indian businessman called out for help after he freed himself.

Records said a neighbour heard the businessman’s cries and rushed to his rescue.

Primary police interrogations led to the arrest of a Pakistani suspect, 22, with criminal records after his fingerprints matched those that were lifted from the crime scene.

Prosecutors charged the suspect of posing as a policeman and stealing Dh315,000 in cash and mobiles.

According to the charges, prosecutors said the suspect planned the heist along with four other suspects, who remain at large.

The 22-year-old suspect pleaded not guilty and denied the charges when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.
