A global perspective

Model United Nations simulations encourage students to think holistically

-

Education is like a lamp which lights your way in a dark alley, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan said.

The Model United Nations (MUN) simulations at GEMS New Millennium School (NMS), Al Khail, encapsulate Shaikh Zayed’s vision for progressive education. The simulations provide a forum for students to gain a deeper understanding of current global issues, enhance their skills in garnering consensus and work towards sustainable solutions for wholesome human development.

The first NMSMUN hosted at our school this month was themed on mobilising sustainable solutions.

This blends with the underlying themes of the Year of Zayed, which are wisdom, respect, sustainability and human development. MUN secretary-general Advait Joshi said that “a Model United Nations conference builds confidence like nothing else”.

In a conference that spans over three days, participants called ‘delegates’ represent councils and committees. The opportunity for forward thinking lends to each delegate the values needed to take forward the essence of a rich past into future generations.

Sustaining culture and civilisation is in itself a great challenge. However, having mutual respect for one another and creating a wealthier future for everyone is a greater triumph.

In tandem with the ideals of a great leader like Shaikh Zayed, NMSMUN strives to:

■ Explore practical and viable solutions.

■ Aid in building a network of the brightest minds of the 21st century.

■ Give you an unforgettable, life-long experience, especially an enviable sense of being part of social change.

With a Model United Nations Society after school activity and an international conference on the cards, the MUN experience allows every new millennial the ability to face challenges with confidence and character.

In an effort to break down fears, visualise and create the future, we want each young learner to enjoy life and live in harmony. It takes a conscious effort to make the forum an engaging, immersive experience in the world of international affairs wherein the vision of pioneering school leaders find fertile soil in the enthusiasm and curiosity of young minds.

These young minds tend to get into a mould easily and therefore must be channelled into becoming greater leaders by the grooming of character and a harmonious integration of personality.

The growing number of MUN conferences across the globe and in UAE is proof that the student community is marching towards newer beginnings by looking beyond the horizon in all their endeavours.

The great leader’s vision to open UAE’s economy to international brand peace is a step to move the world towards having a new vision. A knowledge-based economy is what is visualised for the generation to cherish by the great visionary.

No matter how many buildings, schools and hospitals we build ... The real spirit behind progress is the human spirit, the able man with his intellect and capabilities.” Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Young minds tend to get into a mould easily and must be channelled into becoming leaders by the grooming of character.
