Special children take part in Quran contest
Five students of Awladouna Centre participated in the annual Dubai competition
Ramadan is the perfect time for people of all nationalities, races, and abilities to strengthen their faith through prayer, recitation, and community work.
For students at Awladouna Centre, a learning centre for people of determination, taking part in Islamic programmes around the country helps them connect with their spirituality and celebrate the holy month.
Five students from the facility — Ali Aref, Omar Abdul Rahman, Abdullah Al Mazimi, Yousuf Al Murshidi and Hareb Ahmad — participated in the annual Dubai Holy Quran Competition for People of Determination. The competition, which welcomes people with disabilities from across the UAE, was held at the Dubai Club for People of Determination.
Farid Elazar, assistant psychologist at Awladouna Centre, said the centre continuously pushes its students to take part in national events as a means to promote their inclusion within the community, and a way for them to give back as well.
He said, “It’s important that our students not only receive good from the community, but also do good. And that happens when they participate in [activities] they love.”
Every year, a group of students are selected to represent the centre in the competition. Whether or not they win, the centre ensures participants are recognised for their hard work with certificates.
