Two-bedroom flat tenants with two cars get a breather

- BY SAJILA SASEENDRAN Senior Reporter

The management of Al Khail Gate community has decided to let some tenants obtain a parking permit for a second car, cutting down the annual expenses for parking two cars from Dh14,180 to Dh5,000, Gulf News has learnt.

Residents said the Al Khail Gate property management last week started issuing no objection certificates (NOCs) to RTA to allocate a second permit to occupants of two bedroom apartments with two cars. As reported by Gulf News, this was a request raised by several families with two cars.

Amending its first policy that two permits would be issued only to three bedroom apartments, the management decided to issue NOCs for two-bedroom apartments under certain conditions. Those who received the NOC said they had to prove the second car also belongs to a member of the same family that holds the Ejari tenancy contract. The second permit issued to some tenants bears the tag ‘exceptional’.

R. Balachandran, whose family got an NOC for a second permit, said: “It is a big relief that they issued an NOC for a second permit for my wife’s car. So we have decided to stay back as we have many friends here.”

However, it is not clear if there will be cap for NOC for the second permit as the number of parking slots are limited in the community.

Gulf News queries regarding this were not immediately answered by the property management and RTA.
