Man drowns, two rescued in separate Ajman incidents

Official urges beachgoers to avoid swimming during unstable weather

One person drowned while swimming in rough seas off the Ajman beach and two others were rescued in three separate incidents during the Eid holiday.

Police said these persons were swimming in a prohibited area on Ajman Corniche.

Brigadier Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, director-general of Ajman Civil Defence, said on the first day of Eid on Friday, they received two calls reporting drowning incidents which occurred in the afternoon.

A man was pulled out of the sea in critical condition and rushed to the hospital but he died after a couple of hours after admission.

In the second incident, the operations room received a call in the evening reporting that a man was drowning.

The rescue team retrieved him from the waters and gave him first aid at the beach and then moved him to Al Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.

The third incident happened in the early hours of the second day of Eid yesterday.

The operations room received a call at 5.42am reporting a man was drowning. The rescue team reached to the scene immediatel­y and rescued the man who was also taken to the hospital.

The rescue team cordoned off the beach and banned swimming at night for the sake of public safety.

Brig Al Shamsi urged beachgoers to avoid going into the sea during unstable weather and be cautious while swimming, particular­ly during high tide, and avoid prohibited areas.
