Four suspects were arrested in Sharjah on charges of robbing bank customers in Ajman, police said yesterday.

All four suspects are Arabs and they closely watched people who withdrew money from banks before robbing them, said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of Ajman Criminal and Investigation Department at Ajman Police.

The suspects especially targeted customers who had withdrawn cash and left it in their cars. The arrest was made after police received a complaint from an Asian man who said said he withdrew Dh130,000 from a bank in Ajman and had parked his car in front of a shop only to return to find the window smashed and cash stolen.

The suspects were arrested after police identified the car used by them to carry out their crime.

The suspects were about to leave the country through Sharjah airport when they were arrested.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Ajman Police said they had received a number of complaints about people being robbed soon after having withdrawn money from banks.

Ajman Police have launched a number of awareness campaigns for the safety of bank customers and to educate them on security measures to adopt when they withdraw cash from ATMs or bank counters.
