As many as 1,691 women candidates have filed nomination papers for participat­ing in next month’s general elections, compared to 1,171 candidates in last elections in 2013. This year 436 women have filed nomination­s for contesting National Assembly seats and 1,255 for four provincial assemblies.

According to the data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan, 664 women have filed nomination papers for contesting Punjab Assembly seats. In the last elections 231 women had filed nomination­s for the provincial assembly

For the National Assembly, 236 women have filed their nomination papers from Punjab compared to 123 candidates in 2013 elections.

Likewise, from Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a 88 women have filed nomination­s for the National Assembly compared to 78 last time and 262 for the provincial assembly compared to 229 candidates who had filed their nomination papers in 2013.
