Israeli regime to build 400 colonist homes in West Bank

MOVE FOLLOWS STABBING THAT LEFT A COLONIST DEAD; ALLEGED ATTACKER ALSO KILLED

-

The Israeli occupation regime is to build hundreds of new homes in a colony in the occupied West Bank where a Palestinian stabbed three colonists, one fatally, Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said yesterday on Twitter, announcing 400 new housing units in the Adam colony north of occupied Jerusalem a day after the deadly stabbing.

The teenage attacker snuck into the colony on Thursday evening by climbing a wall, the Israeli occupation army said.

He stabbed three people seemingly at random before being shot dead.

The occupation regime named the man who died as Yotam Ovadia, 31, with Israeli media saying he had two young children. A 58-year-old victim was said to be seriously wounded but stable. The third victim was lightly wounded.

The attacker was later identified by official Palestinian media as Mohammad Dar Yousuf, 17, from the village of Kobar.

The occupation regime said yesterday it had raided the village, questioned a number of his family members and suspended their work permits.

During the raid yesterday morning, clashes broke out between young Palestinians and occupation regime soldiers.

The clashes were over by mid-morning yesterday, an AFP photographer said, though the occupation regime had established a checkpoint at the edge of the village.

Official Palestinian news agency Wafa said three people were arrested.

All Israeli colony construction in the occupied West Bank is considered illegal by the international community.

The Israeli occupation regime rejects the widely held view that colony expansion is one of the greatest obstacles to peace with the Palestinians.

Attacks against Israelis in the West Bank are supported by many Palestinians as pushing back against colony growth.

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Jason Greenblatt called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose Fatah movement leads the government in the West Bank, to condemn the attack.

“Yet another barbaric attack tonight. When will President Abbas and Palestinian leaders condemn the violence?” he wrote on Twitter.

Man shot dead in Gaza

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation troops also shot dead a Palestinian man during protests at the Gaza-Israel border yesterday, the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said in a statement. It named the dead man as Gazi Abu Mustafee, 43, and said he was shot in the head near the border fence.

In Gaza, the Israeli occupation regime has killed at least 155 Palestinians since late March.
