The Dubai Appeal Court upheld a three-year sentence against two suspects for locking up a woman, robbing her and having sex with her, before she jumped to her death while trying to escape from their clutches.

The two Uzbeks were charged with confinement, theft and having consensual sex with the woman.

A third man was convicted by a Misdemeanours court of consuming alcohol without a licence. On November 11 last year, the Uzbek suspects arranged with the woman to have sex for Dh1,000.

The men and the woman were captured on CCTV footage entering a hotel apartment in Al Ghusais. Later, two of the men were also caught on camera running out of the hotel.

The Dubai Police were alerted about a woman who fell to her death from the third floor of the same hotel apartment.

An Emirati policeman testified that they found minor knife wounds on both her hands and dust on her clothes. “She was trying to escape after being locked up by the men in the apartment. She tried to jump to the next apartment’s balcony, but fell to her death,” he said.

One of the defendants, aged 31, was arrested after the receptionist told the police that he had booked the apartment.

The defendant confessed to officers that he and his compatriots met the woman at a nightclub and agreed to go to the apartment for sex, but claimed that he left the apartment before anything happened. The police set a trap for the other two defendants and arrested them later.

Investigations revealed that the two men who remained behind with the woman fought with her when she tried to leave the apartment, after she got a call from another customer. The pair threatened her with a knife, injuring her on both hands. They tried to pull her inside the apartment when she tried to jump to the next flat, but she instead fell to her death.
