New smart inspection at Dubai Customs

The 3D CT scanning system is the first device of its kind in the Middle East

Asmart 3D CT scanning system will be part of Dubai Customs’ new sophistica­ted inspection process, as the customs department tightens controls on cargo movements across all Dubai ports and terminals.

The new smart inspection device is the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Abdullah Mohammed Al Khaja, executive director of Clients Management Division at Dubai Customs, launched the new device at Umm Al Ramool post office.

“The advanced technology incorporat­ed in this new device will be a turning point in the inspection field and will significan­tly support Dubai Customs inspection officers in their work,” said Al Khaja.

Dubai customs uses 944 inspection systems including six container scanning systems, 24 small shipment scanning systems, 23 drug ■ and explosives detectors, four big shipments scanning systems, and 700 radioactiv­ity detectors, plus 187 communicat­ion devices, Al Khaja said.

“This is part of our vision of becoming the leading customs administra­tion in the world supporting legitimate trade, and our mission of protecting society and sustaining economic developmen­t through compliance, facilitati­on and Innovation,” said Al Khaja. Dubai Customs has allocated Dh79 million for systems upgrade for the period between 2018 and 2021.

Dubai Customs inspection officers made 1,628 drug seizures in 2017, compared to 1,347 seizures in 2016.
