Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones, what’s the difference?

A hurricane is a large rotating storm that forms over tropical or subtropical waters in the Atlantic or eastern Pacific oceans. Similar storms in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific are known as cyclones.

Those formed in the western Pacific are called typhoons.
