“When I look back where we came from, there is only one word that strikes me, and it is ‘phenomenal’.

When we relaunched the newspaper in the mid-eighties, no one in the industry gave us a chance. The only other English language newspaper in the UAE was a household name across all demographi­cs. We were faced with what I would term as an extreme challenge.

“However, what we had was an excellent team and a leadership, which gave us the confidence, hope and a vision.

“We were the first to introduce glossy colour options in the broadsheet along with a full colour Tabloid. We gave the market a beautiful weekly magazine and a full-blown free classified section, along with a bouquet of high quality supplement­s, the kind the market had never seen before. Soon our efforts and our quality of products placed us as the undisputed market leader.

“What we did for print in those days, we are now doing in digital and are in the midst of launching one of the finest websites in the region.
