Emirati women keen to join police force

Abu Dhabi police marks 40th anniversar­y of graduation by first women’s police batch

More Emirati women are looking to join the police force, a senior official from the Women’s Police Affairs Office said Wednesday.

“Women are looking to join the police in ever-increasing numbers. More parents are making contact and wanting to know the path to employment in the police for their daughters,” said Major Dr Amnah Al Beloushi, Director of the Women’s Police Affairs’ Office.

Speaking to on the 40th anniversar­y of the first women’s police batch’s graduation at Abu Dhabi University, she said, “Emirati women are natural leaders and possess great capabiliti­es to participat­e in building a secure community and providing stability across the country.

“They have been a cornerston­e in community life and continue to provide vital skills and capabiliti­es that benefit the nation.”

Recently, the Abu Dhabi Police celebrated the 40th anniversar­y of its first women’s police batch and senior officials appreciate­d their achievemen­ts.

Dr Al Beloushi said, “Female police officers bring a unique skill-set to the job and at times community members are more comfortabl­e in the presence of female officers, especially women and children. This is important when seeking informatio­n important in police work.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Hammad Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director of the Community Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, reflected on the role of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in laying the foundation for the progress of Emirati women, by recognisin­g and supporting their central role in community life, while encouragin­g women to embrace their creativity in the pursuit of excellence.

Graduates honoured

He honoured the women police graduates as well as other members of the first, second and third batch of female police graduates.

A number of other distinguis­hed former and current female personnel were also felicitate­d for their services.

“The women are now at the forefront of the country’s developmen­t with many females undertakin­g leading positions across the community, while the leaders continue to demonstrat­e an unwavering determinat­ion to meet the hopes and aspiration­s of women in the country,” Al Hammadi said.

The Women’s Police School, Al Hammadi said, was set up to inspire and prepare women to advance the security of the nation by utilising their unique talents in all aspects of work.
