Cash assistance for Filipinos stranded by typhoon

Affected overseas workers to receive 5,000 pesos in compensati­on

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) stranded at Manila airports due to flight cancellati­ons caused by the super typhoon Mangkhut may get 5,000 pesos (Dh339) in cash assistance, officials announced yesterday. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has advised OFWs returning to the UAE to appear before the DFA Assistance Desks at Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport and Clark Internatio­nal Airport to claim their cash assistance.

OFWs need to submit their airline tickets, employment contract and Overseas Employment Certificat­e. DFA teams will remain at the two airports until 10pm (local time) today.

Other OFWs may claim their cash assistance from the DFA Office of Migrant Workers Affairs in Pasay City and all DFA consular offices around the Philippine­s from September 17 to 21.
