Anatomy of a scam

-

Fraudsters create websites of fictitious organisations with purported UAE addresses. All their content is stolen from websites of genuine organisations. Using the bogus website as a front, they send offer letters with incredible salaries and perks to job-seekers who have uploaded their CVs on recruitment websites. To give the scam a semblance of credibility, the con artists fix fake stamps and seals on the offer letter. Unsuspecting candidates are asked to contact a travel firm (also fake) and remit money towards visa processing fees.

Since the job-seeker is mostly based outside the UAE, he/she often wires the money to the travel firm only to never hear from the company or travel agency again.
