Congress to contest polls in Kashmir

Congress yesterday said it will participate in the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the media, G.A. Mir, President of Jammu and Kashmir Congress unit, said his party had decided to take part in the polls to “keep the communal forces away”. The National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party have announced a boycott of the elections. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) has also decided to avoid the polls. (IANS)
