Appeal to criminals for ‘truce’ flayed
The
government in Bihar state has come under fire after it publicly appealed to gangsters and anti-social elements to stay away from crime during the Hindu ritual of Pitripaksha Mela. The fortnight-long event, an annual ritual for Hindus began in Gaya on Sunday. Around two million pilgrims are expected to attend.
“With folded hands I appeal to the criminals not to indulge in any criminal activities during the ritual period,” Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said. (Staff Report)
