RTA to auction off 300 number plates online

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering around 300 car number plates comprising three- to five-digit plates in its upcoming 54th online auction.

Plates on offer bear A, B, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T-letter codes.

Registrati­on of bidders will start tomorrow. The bidding starts at 8am on October 7 and will continue for five days.

Jamal Hashim Assada, director of vehicles licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency, said: “The sales of licence plates will be subject to a five per cent VAT [Value Added Tax]. To participat­e in the auction, a client must have an RTA account or use the ‘New User’ link on the website www.rta. ae to obtain a user name and password. New users need to have a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driver’s licence issued from Dubai.”

Assada said a bidder is required to pay a security cheque worth Dh5,000 and a non-refundable Dh120 subscripti­on fee. Payment can be made at RTA’s Customer Happiness Centres at Umm Ramool, Al Barsha or Deira. It can also be done online on the RTA site or the ‘Dubai Drive’ app.

The successful bidder has to clear the payment within 10 working days from the date of the closing of the auction. Defaulters will be blackliste­d.
