Flyover on Shaikh Zayed Road

Project to provide faster access to several areas in Dubai

- BY HANAN AL MAAZMI Guest Editor

Anew two-kilometre multi-level traffic corridor between interchanges two and three will reduce traffic on Shaikh Zayed Road.

The six-lane corridor connecting Umm Al Sheif Road in Al Safa 2 with Latifa Bint Hamdan Street in Al Quoz will pass along Shaikh Zayed Road without increasing the number of vehicles on the highway.

Mattar Al Tayer, directorgeneral and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA said: “The project is a part of a major upgrade to Al Wasl and Jumeirah streets, as part of RTA’s master plan for upgrading the network of roads, bridges, crossings and tunnels to accommodate the growing traffic movement and improve mobility throughout Dubai.”

The Dh800 million project includes multiple sections with several ramps adding new access and exit points along the highway. “As a trained engineer, I believe projects like this will provide faster access to several areas in Dubai, reducing commuting time. Dubai is known for its world-class infrastructure and thanks to the leadership’s vision, the emirate has the best road network in the world.”

Tailbacks

Motorists driving along the Al Quoz side of Shaikh Zayed Road will have a new access point to the highway, towards Sharjah, reducing long tailbacks and congestion at the exit near Oasis Centre.
