Ram Babu, the diehard Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan, was among the full house to watch India win the Asia Cup on Friday.

He travels around the world cheering his ‘idol’ and loves to watch Dhoni win matches for India.

Speaking to Gulf News while cheering for Dhoni during a practice session on the eve of final, he said: “I am from Chandigarh and wherever Dhoni plays, I try and go and call out his name from the stands and cheer for him.”

Babu then demonstrated how he cheers for Dhoni and India, and said: “Dhoni is everything to me and that is why I have his name on my chest.” Dhoni, after having seen him all the time in the stands, has often got him match passes. He travels to venues in India by train, and to places like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka he gets financial support from well wishers.

“Once during the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, I fell sick and Dhoni came to know about it. He contacted me and put me on to the best available doctor there. He asked me to go back but I did not and returned only after the final,” said Babu, who works as a warehouse security guard when he is not pursuing Dhoni.

No. 7, that is Dhoni’s number on his team jersey, is painted on this ardent fan’s body along with India’s tricolor flag.
