Record set on birth anniversary

A new Guinness World Record was set on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi when 5,149 children decked in Gandhiji’s attire gathered in Nalgonda yesterday. The children donned white loin cloths, with their heads covered in white wigs or cap. They each sported reading glasses and carried a stick in hand as they gathered to pay their respects to Gandhi in novel style.

Call for freedom struggle against BJP

The Congress party yesterday called for a “new freedom struggle” to combat the Modi government’s politics of threats, intimidation, polarisation and divisiveness.

“Today, a new freedom struggle is the urgent need of the hour — a massive movement to combat the forces of divisiveness and prejudice, to confront the Modi government whose politics is the politics of threat and intimidation, the politics of polarisation and divisiveness, the politics of crushing debate and dissent, the politics of imposing an artificial uniformity in a nation of extraordinary diversity, the politics of hate and vendetta, the politics of subverting all constitutional values, principles and practices, the politics of lies, deceit, fraud and subterfuge,” the Congress Working Committee resolution said.
