Kerala bishop denied bail in rape case

The Kerala High Court yesterday turned down a bail application by the bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulakkal who is accused of raping a nun multiple times.

While dismissing his petition, the court said there was prima facie evidence that merited turning down his appeal. It said there was a chance he could influence witnesses. The prosecution also argued officers were yet to record statements by five other nuns, and that giving bail to Mulakkal would adversely affect the investigation.
