Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Ankara said they had no information about a Saudi citizen whose whereabouts are unknown since Tuesday and that they were probing the case.
“We don’t have any information about him, we are probing it,” Waleed Abdul Kareem Al Khuraiji said after he was summoned yesterday by the Turkish Foreign Ministry seeking an explanation for the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Earlier, the Saudi General Consulate in Istanbul said that it was coordinating with the Turkish authorities to help unveil the mystery that has shrouded the disappearance.
Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate for a document he needed in order to marry his Turkish fiancee Hatice (Khadija). The fiancee said he never came out of the diplomatic mission building while Saudi authorities insisted he left the consulate.
“The Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul said it was following up on the media reports of the disappearance of Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi after he left the building of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul,” a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency yesterday said.
