Satya Pal Malik was born on July 26, 1946 in village Hisawada, Baghpat, district Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

He received his B.SC and law degree from Meerut College. Joined politics and became member of UP Legislative Assembly — 1974-77. Member of the Rajya Sabha from UP for two consecutive terms — 1980-89. Member of Lok Sabha from Aligarh, UP, on Janata Dal ticket — 1989.

Lost the Lok Sabha election on Samajwadi Party ticket — 1996. Joined the Bharatiya Janata Party before Lok Sabha elections — 2014.

Given additional charge as Governor of Odisha — March ■ ■ 2018 — May 2018. Served as Governor of Bihar — September 2017- August 2018. ■
