Emirates will reduce the number of flights it operates by around 28 per cent for 45 days in 2019 as the airport undergoes upgrade works. An Emirates spokesperson said the airline will cancel some flights, reduce frequencies on some routes, and reschedule others during the 45 days.
Flydubai also announced yesterday it would operate flights to select destinations from Dubai World Central (DWC) during the southern runway refurbishment project previously announced by Dubai Airports.
The refurbishment is scheduled to take place between April 16 and May 30.
Flights to 39 of flydubai’s network of 92 destinations will operate from DWC during the runway enhancement including flights to Alexandria, Delhi, Istanbul, Jeddah, Kuwait, Mumbai and Riyadh. During this period flights to ten of these destinations will also be available from Dubai. Flights to all other flydubai destinations will continue to operate from Dubai International (DXB).
“Runway enhancement programmes continue to support the long term vision for aviation in the UAE. With flydubai flights operating to select destinations from DWC, we aim to not only support this vision but to provide our passengers with as much choice as possible,” said Gaith Al Gaith, chief executive officer of flydubai.
