Parineeti Chopra wants more women to speak up about their #MeToo experiences now that Tanushree Dutta has started the conversation after renewing her allegations against actor Nana Patekar for sexually harassing her a decade ago.

Chopra was speaking at the launch of Proper Patola, a song from her forthcoming film Namaste England, which also stars Arjun Kapoor and is directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. “Honestly, I really hope that it’s not a start of #MeToo movement because it will mean that there are a lot more stories like this and I really hope this is first and last story if it is true,” said Chopra, when quizzed about Bollywood experiencing its watershed moment. “If there are any victims, especially women in the industry, then I want every woman to come out in the open and speak [up] because if they don’t now, they will forever be suppressed.”

Chopra stated she would not stay quiet if she faces harassment. “Personally, I have never gone through such an experience, but God forbid, if it would have happened with me, then I would have never kept quiet about it.

“This is something serious that has happened to somebody...So, I hope this is all untrue, but if it has [happened] then we will all support her [Dutta].”

Kapoor also weighed in, saying: “I have two sisters in the industry [Janhvi and Sonam Kapoor], so as a human being who has sisters, I would want any woman should feel safe... If she [Dutta] is speaking the truth, then she will win.”
