Ajobless man has been accused of deliberately setting two trucks on fire and causing Dh18,000 worth of damage to the vehicles, a court heard on Thursday.

Firefighting teams were informed about two vehicles that were on fire at Dubai Investment Park in August.

Dubai Civil Defence teams arrived at the location and started extinguishing the fires, then Dubai Police teams followed and started investigations.

Policemen searching the vicinity suspected a 23-year-old Pakistani jobless man, who was taken into custody.

While being questioned, the man, who turned out to be drunk, claimed he set the two cars on fire in collaboration with other men who remained at large.

Prosecutors accused the Pakistani suspect of deliberately setting two vehicles afire.

The suspect was cited as admitting to prosecutors that an Indian person had paid him Dh300 to set the vehicles on fire.

A ruling will be heard on October 25.
