Abu Dhabi seizes over 7,000 fake designer wear
Counterfeit clothes, shoes and accessories confiscated during raid on secret warehouse
Authorities in Abu Dhabi seized over 7,000 pieces of counterfeit designer clothes, footwear and accessories from a secret warehouse.
The Department of Economic Development (DED) confirmed that all 7,363 fake products confiscated in the recent raid will be destroyed.
The DED carries out periodic raids against shops that sell counterfeit goods, and in the second half of 2018 had seized 9,249 fake products and issued 1,456 fines.
From January to June 2018, the department also shut down 16 shops in Abu Dhabi, one in Al Ain and three in the Al Dhafra region for violating commercial laws and regulations in the emirate.
Gulf News earlier reported that fake designer shoes are the most traded product in the UAE market. An inspection earlier this year in Dubai rounded up counterfeit shoes worth Dh400 million.
