No international attention?

-

The Sulawesi disaster has not received the humanitarian sympathy and helping hand it deserves from the international community (“10 minutes of terror: A quake, a tsunami and a missing son”, Gulf News, October 10). The tsunami, earthquake and volcano eruption, which took place must have been difficult for people living there. More than 200,000 people have been severely hit and are reeling under the havoc.

Many homes have been destroyed and it will take a long time to find the resources to build Sulawesi again. The misery of the victims in the tropical land cannot be imagined. How will the survivor families bear this loss?

This situation is similar to what happened in Kerala earlier this year. However, rescue operations were underway and a lot of help flew in from other countries.

It is strange that Sulawesi has not received the desired sympathy and help from the international community and the media. This has happened because it is not as well-known as Kerala. It is time for the United Nations to step in and help Sulawesi stand on its feet again.
