Ticking time bomb

According to a recent report by the United Nations, the world is doomed. Climate change is real and if we don’t wake up, we won’t have a planet by 2040 (“Climate change cannot be ignored any more”, Gulf News, October 9). It is no secret that with globalisation, migration and population displacement, our needs have changed. The world is a competitive place and everyone is hungry for power and control. In this respect, a lot of emphasis is put on creating more infrastructures, spending lots of money on transportation and technology, building more factories and destroying the environment. Every day there are stories of how the world is doomed and how there is nothing anyone is doing about it. However, in our race to succeed we are destroying the human race. The number of natural disasters that have hit different parts of the world should be a wakeup call to everyone. We need to protect our planet before it’s too late. By Ms Anjali Makhija
