Honouring a leader
October 2 was a national holiday for India, as it marked the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation (“Dubai’s Burj Khalifa beams Gandhi’s images”, Gulf News, October 2). This year, we celebrated his 150th birth anniversary. The Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, beamed with pictures of Gandhi, highlighted by some of his famous quotes. This was a great honour for us Indians and the gesture of the UAE was appreciated. Gandhi led India’s non-violent independence movement. He was born in Porbandar, India. He studied law and was an advocate of peace. Gandhi said that cleanness is not just the responsibility of government, but all citizens. Mahatma Gandhi had a revolutionary vision about making India clean and better.
