Dh10,000 fine for putting up illegal ads, posters in capital

Municipality has issued 717 warnings and 33 fines and removed 33 adverts so far this year

- Staff Report

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has warned that unauthorised posters and advertisements placed in public places will attract fines ranging from Dh1,000 to Dh10,000.

The municipality will take legal action against the publishers of these adverts and posters as these offences are punishable by fines according to the General Appearance Law No 2 of 2012 and the Preservation of the Public Places Regulation, said an ADM press release issued yesterday.

The municipality has carried out a series of campaigns against unauthorised posters and adverts on the streets, light poles, bus stops, public and private facilities and roundabouts.

The campaigns conducted in Abu Dhabi city and outskirts targeted widespread adverts on the streets without the approval of the competent authorities.

Since these distort the general appearance of the city, the municipality is organising awareness campaigns on social media, the streets and through educative leaflets against casual adverts to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the city.

It also highlighted the importance of obtaining official approval and licence from the relevant institutions and authorities.

This year so far, the municipality has issued 717 warnings and 33 tickets for unlicensed posters and adverts and removed 33 unlicensed adverts.

The municipality served 214 warnings and tickets in the first quarter of this year, 220 in the second quarter, and 283 in the third quarter.

The civic body will raise awareness through social media platforms, awareness lectures in residential neighbourhoods (majlis) and community forums. It will continue promoting values of social responsibility and engaging the public in achieving the vision of the Abu Dhabi government.
