Steward robs three brothers on flight

- BY BASSAM ZA’ZA’ Legal and Court Correspondent

Aflight steward has been accused of stealing Dh18,500 from three Emirati brothers in a business class cabin on an Emirates flight from Thailand to Dubai in June.

Court records say that while in mid-air, the father suddenly fell ill, so they left their belongings unattended and went to check on him.

On returning to their seats, they discovered that a total of Dh18,500 in various currencies had been stolen from their wallets. The brothers notified the cabin supervisor and the police were informed.

Police investigations found that an Egyptian flight steward, 37, had taken the cash, after his fingerprints matched those lifted from one of the wallets.

Prosecutors charged the suspect of stealing money from the three passengers. He pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday.

However, a police corporal told prosecutors that the suspect admitted to stealing the money after his fingerprints matched those on the wallets.
