Two brothers have been accused of punching a manager and breaking his tooth, assaulting his friend and cursing them in public, a court heard on Thursday.
In May, the Portuguese manager and his wife were said to have been out on a Friday afternoon, with an Indian friend and his wife, at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
Court records say the two couples were sitting in a restaurant’s waiting area when they spotted two British brothers, 30 and 27, when one of them pointed at the Indian’s female friend, who was accompanying the couples. The brother, who pointed his finger, also spoke in an inappropriate manner about the female friend, and his attitude coerced the Indian man to confront him.
A fracas ensued between the Portuguese manager, his Indian friend and the two brothers, who assaulted the men and cursed them as well. One of the brothers punched the Portuguese and broke his tooth, while the other brother injured the Indian on his neck. The Britons’ father intervened and stopped his sons from continuing the assault. Meanwhile, the assaulted men called the police. Prosecutors accused the British brothers of assaulting the Portuguese and the Indian, cursing them and offending them in a public place.
Presiding judge Habib Awad will give a ruling on November 8.
