Sidhu urges Railways to curb accidents

pointing out that around 50,000 lives were lost in accidents on rail tracks in north India in the last two years, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu yesterday urged Railway Minister Piyush Goyalto to put in place an effective mechanism to stop railway accidents.

Sidhu, who distribute­d (in Amritsar) compensati­on cheques to kin of victims of the October 19 Amritsar train tragedy in which 60 people died, said in the past two years accidents in northern India had claimed about 50,000 lives. (IANS)
