PM to visit China to boost ties

The two sides will review the entire range of bilateral relations

Prime Minister Imran Khan will pay an official visit to China from November 2 to 5, 2018, on invitation from the Chinese leadership.

This will be his first official visit to China, after assuming office in August 2018. He will be accompanie­d by a high-level delegation, including the Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs. The visit signifies the closeness and traditiona­l warmth which characteri­ses Pakistan-China relations.

According to the Foreign Office statement issued yesterday, Prime Minister Khan will hold meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.

During the visit, the two sides will review the entire range of bilateral relations which have enjoyed a long history of mutual trust and mutual support. The two sides will also sign several agreement/MoUs of cooperatio­n in diverse fields.

After his Beijing visit, Khan will visit Shanghai to participat­e in the First China Internatio­nal Import Expo, where Pakistan is exhibiting a wide range of export products.

On the sidelines of the Shanghai Forum, Khan will hold meetings with other world leaders. He will also hold meetings with Chinese financial and corporate sector leaders.

The traditiona­lly close and friendly ties between Pakistan and China are based on shared principles and mutual interests, entailing close cooperatio­n in diverse fields.

Both countries maintain close and regular strategic communicat­ion for the promotion of regional peace and stability and economic cooperatio­n. Economic and industrial cooperatio­n between Pakistan and China expanded significan­tly after the establishm­ent of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Khan’s visit is expected to provide further impetus to strategic ties and broaden the bilateral partnershi­p.
