What is KhalifaSat and what does it do?

The KhalifaSat Earth observatio­n satellite was launched by the Japan Aerospace Exploratio­n Agency from its Tanegashim­a Space Centre yesterday, marking a historic milestone in the UAE’s space programme.

What are the uses of KhalifaSat’s images?

Satellite imagery captured with a resolution of 70cm plus 3D images, for free use by all UAE Government entities and universiti­es. The satellite can also take images up to 12km in width and 1,500km long and up to 36km in width through advanced control system that enables three consecutiv­e imagings in one. It can provide environmen­tal studies including detecting oil spills on land, monitoring land contaminat­ion, water quality and water resources monitoring.
