Lalu Prasad’s elder son seeks divorce
Married just six months ago, Tej Pratap says they’re ‘mismatched’
Barely six months after their wedding took place with much fanfare, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav has filed for divorce from his wife Aishwarya Rai.
The couple were married in May. The court has admitted the petition and listed for hearing on November 29.
Tej Pratap, who served as the health minister in the previous Grand Alliance government, ■ yesterday confirmed he wants a divorce from his “mismatched” wife as their lifestyles were entirely different. According to him, he didn’t want to marry Aishwarya, granddaughter of a former Bihar chief minister, but his parents didn’t pay heed to his wishes.
“I told my parents that I did not wish to marry her. I am a simple man with simple habits, while she is a modern woman, educated in Delhi and used to life in a metropolis,” Tej Pratap was quoted as telling the local media yesterday, en route to Ranchi to meet his jailed father.
The RJD president is currently serving a jail term for three fodder scam cases. His family is now making headlines in the local media, at a time when the party should be focusing on strengthening the organisational base, as the next general elections are barely a few months away.
