Sharjah school bags Lughati Cup for the second time

The Fatima Bint Abdul Malek School won the Lughati Cup for the second year in a row during this year’s Sharjah Internatio­nal Book Fair, it was announced yesterday.

Now in its third edition, the Lughati Cup this year saw fierce competitio­n among the 30 public schools from Sharjah. Targeting third grade students, the Lughati Cup competitio­n is designed to test the Arabic language skills of Sharjah’s primary school students.

Pupils of the Fatima Bint Abdul Malek School beat 29 other schools and was awarded the cup in addition to a cash prize of Dh10,000. Al Husain School for Girls which came second bagged Dh7,000, while Abdullah Omran Trayem School came third and received a cash prize of Dh5,000.

Badriya Al Ali, Lughati’s Manager, congratula­ted the winners and participan­ts for their exceptiona­l language skills, especially their notable prowess in grammar, eloquence and pronunciat­ion.

“According to studies, the language of any nation is at risk if 30 per cent of its members stop learning it. The advanced levels of all participan­ts at Lughati Cup 2018 indicate that our Arabic language is able to face the challenges,” said Al Ali.
