Dubai uni to adapt King short story

- —Staff Report

Acclaimed horror writer Stephen King has given the rights to Middlesex University Dubai to adapt his short story Stationary Bike, from his book Just After Sunset, for just $1 (Dh3.67).

The story is about an artist who buys a stationary bike in the hopes of riding it regularly, until the object begins to assume otherworldly powers. King gave the rights to the Dubai university under his Dollar Baby programme, which grants permission to students and aspiring filmmakers or theatre producers to adapt one of his short stories for just $1.

“It is an honour and an amazing opportunity for our students to adapt the work of the world-famous author. This is not only exciting from the University’s perspective, but it’s also exciting news for the region,” said David Tully, head of the Film and Media Department at Middlesex University Dubai.

Once completed, Stationary Bike will be screened at a special event at Roxy Cinamas by the students.
