Heavy rain and strong winds in Abu Dhabi

The Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police yesterday warned residents to stay indoors, while motorists were urged to take precaution­s, due to inclement weather conditions in different parts of the country, particular­ly in Abu Dhabi.

Strong winds and heavy rain reduced visibility in various parts of the country yesterday, prompting authoritie­s to issue the weather alerts.

A ministry tweet said, “Severe winds and dust in different parts of the country. We call on drivers to exercise caution.”

Through messages sent to residents’ phones, Abu Dhabi Police urged people to stay indoors.

Police also urged motorists not to use hazard lights while driving in poor visibility.

Showers in Dubai

Strong winds and heavy rain lashed different parts of Abu Dhabi yesterday evening while in Dubai and the northern emirates there were gusty winds and scattered showers. The National Centre of Meteorolog­y and Seismology has also issued warnings of bad weather on its website and asked seafarers to avoid venturing far out to sea as waves reached up to two metres.
