Guards fined for toy soldier outfits

- BY GILBERT P. FELONGCO Correspondent

Security personnel at a popular mall in Makati City, Philippines, have been penalised by police for wearing soldier costumes as part of the centre’s Christmas holiday motif.

The guards donned costumes similar to the British Red Coat and Bear Skin Hat uniforms, worn by the Queen’s Guards at the Buckingham Palace.

However, some expressed concern that criminals could take advantage of the situation by dressing themselves up in toy soldier costumes as well, to infiltrate the establishment and create trouble.

The guards were fined P10,000 (Dh697.75) each, by the Philippine National Police’s SOSIA wing, for violating rules governing private security agencies. The typical security guard earns only a similar amount in a month.
