After the phenomenal success of the nowdefunct television drama series Wildflower, actress Maja Salvador is giving her fans another treat but on the big screen. Her new film, To Love Some Buddy, tells the story of former college classmates who meet again and develop an unlikely friendship.

The movie also features Zanjoe Marudo, who portrays aspiring musician Julius. Salvador plays Julius’ love interest Faith, a hardworking marketing professional who’s caught in an awkward situation when she meets her college friend.

The 30-year-old actress was in the UAE for One Music X Abu Dhabi on Friday and also to promote To Love Some Buddy, which is currently screening in the UAE. The movie, written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, sees Salvador and Marudo acting together in a film for the first time.

“To Love Some Buddy is a story of two people. They were first batch mates, then they become friends, then they become best friends and then they take their relationship to the next level and then they become lovers,” Salvador tells tabloid!.

As their friendship deepens and they find themselves falling in love with each other, Julius and Faith’s relationship is put to the test as expectations and problems creep into their lives.

“The story of the movie is a journey of two persons from being friends then lovers, but what will happen in their relationship?” says Salvador. “If two friends take their relationship to the next level, how will they treat each other? Will it be the same as when they were just best friends? Or do they need to adjust because they are already lovers?”

Salvador explains To Love Some Buddy is a real and relatable film that will take viewers through a turbulent journey of falling in love, riding the waves, enduring the bumps and confronting the dilemma of staying friends or fighting for their relationship.

“It’s very real,” she says. “There are love story movies that are just fairy tales; this one, it’s 100 per cent relatable. It will make you happy, it will make you cry — all the emotions you’ll have in a relationship you will feel in this movie,” she says.

As for her character, Salvador says Faith is a bit different from her.

“Faith is a hopeless romantic. She’s a ‘nobody’ but she’s the type of person who will do anything to make a name and be a successful person,” says Salvador. “She’s very lucky that she has a best friend in Julius. If there’s one personality that we have in common is that we are both caring persons. We are also the same in our pursuit of our dreams, but nobody don’t wants to be a nobody, right? We all want to be successful, to have achievements in life.”
