Jalali’s death anniversary observed
The
death anniversary of famous Urdu Ghazal poet Shakeeb Jalali was observed yesterday. On November 12, 1966, news of Jalali committing suicide under a train in Sargodha had left the literary world shocked.
Jalali, whose real name was Syed Hassan Rizvi, was born on October 1, 1934, in a town near Aligarh in India. He came to Pakistan in 1950. Jalali had a unique way of composing poetry, giving an innovative tone to Urdu ghazals. His first collection, called Roshni Aye Roshni, was published in 1972 — six years after his tragic death. (APP)
