As we observe World Diabetes Day today, it is evident that this lifestyle disease is reaching epidemic proportions in the UAE. According to the 2017 statistics of the International Diabetes Federation, about 17.3 per cent of the UAE population between the age of 20 and 79 has type 2 diabetes.

While Sunshine Masalunga, a Filipina executive living in Dubai has been disciplined and motivated, Khalid Mahmood, an Egyptian engineer from Sharjah has not been able to keep up his workout schedules and suffers from bouts of hyperor hypo glycemia (high or low blood sugar) sometimes.
