Sharjah Police launch investigat­ion into circumstan­ces surroundin­g the tragedy

A four-year-old Emirati boy drowned in the swimming pool of his school in Sharjah yesterday. During a swimming class at Australian Internatio­nal School, the trainers noticed the child unconsciou­s in the pool. The child was taken to Al Qassimi hospital where the medical staff attempted to resuscitat­e him but failed.

Afour-year-old Emirati boy drowned in the swimming pool of his school in Sharjah yesterday morning, police said.

The fatal drowning happened at the Australian Internatio­nal School, off Maliha-Kalba Road in Sharjah. The Sharjah Police have launched an investigat­ion into the incident.

The school will remain closed today and reopen on Monday, a circular issued to parents said.

During swimming class, the trainers noticed the child in an

unconsciou­s state in the pool and rushed him to a nearby hospital. The Emirati child, identified as K.A.A., was taken to Al Qassimi hospital, where the medical staff attempted to resuscitat­e him but failed.

The young kindergart­en student’s tragic death has left the school staff and students devastated. “Our heartfelt condolence­s go to the pupil’s family,”

a member of the school administra­tion told Gulf News.

The school is monitored with a CCTV system and more than 45 teachers were on duty that day. The school has agreed to cooperate with the Sharjah Police in their investigat­ion.

A relative of the deceased child said he had two other siblings in the school. He was the youngest in his family.
