Social media users debated an incident that took place in the US, where a mother was asked to leave a park because the group was enjoying a ‘girls-only’ time.

Sarah Brooks: The sense of entitlement that some people have shocks me. This is a prime example of what’s wrong with the world now. She’s setting a terrible example for her daughter.

Harlan Z. Hill: This is so rude and cruel to the mother and son. Terrible example to set for daughters too.

Sandy Ellis: So glad that so many women (and mothers of girls and boys) are on the same wavelength. Love my daughter and take pride in having raised a strong, young woman. But I have also raised three young men and they are also strong, respectful young men. As a single mother, for a lot of their growing years, they knew all about a strong woman and how to respect one. But I would not tolerate this kind of disrespect and I know my children would not either.

Brionna Corder: All children should be welcomed to play in a public park and not be excluded because of their gender.

Lesley Edgecox: There’s no reason why girls and boys can’t play the same sports at school. They can play together or separately. Girls have been prevented from playing rugby, football and cricket in particular for way too long.
