Awoman in Kerala’s Kollam district was stabbed to death after she reportedly turned down a request from a man to marry her daughter, whom he had befriended on social media.

The online paramour, identified as Sathish, 27, from Madurai in Tamil Nadu state, travelled all the way to his lover’s home in Kulathupuzha in Kollam district to request permission from his prospective mother-in-law, Marykutty Varghese, for her daughter’s hand in marriage.

Sathish had befriended Marykutty’s elder daughter, who is working in Mumbai, on social media.

When the girl’s mother refused Sathish allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed her.

Marykutty ran out of the house, screaming, and collapsed by the side of the road. She was rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to injuries.

Sathish attempted to flee the scene, but onlookers caught him and handed him over to police.

Marykutty’s husband P.K. Varghese is based in the Gulf and she was alone at home.
