King Khalid airport opens in Riyadh
1983 - King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia inaugurated King Khalid international airport some 35km north of Riyadh, almost a self-contained city covering an area which makes it the world’s largest airport. The $3.2 billion (Dh11.76 billion) airport was built on a 325 square km area, including the residential facilities and government offices. Its 81-metre-high control tower is one of the largest in the world.
