Get set for Abu Dhabi F1 entertainment
From after-race concerts to after-parties, family brunches and free events, here’s everything you need to know about the entertainment on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend
Post Malone (Thursday)
Post Malone will kick-off the after-race concerts on Thursday evening. The 23-year-old is a divisive figure in contemporary hip-hop — and a surprisingly popular Halloween costume — who got his first taste of success with his debut single White
Iverson in 2015. The following year, he released his first album
Stoney, landing a Top 10 spot on the American charts. This year, he released his sophomore album Beerbongs & Bentleys, featuring his first No 1 single, Rockstar, with fellow rapper 21 Savage.
The Weeknd (Friday)
R’n’B hit-maker The Weeknd will return to the UAE to perform on Friday. The three-time Grammy Award-winning artist rose to fame with hits such as The Hills,
Can’t Feel My Face and Starboy.
Born Abel Tesfaye, the notoriously private singer-songwriter puts it all on the line in his music, sonically inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson. And though Tesfaye has made headlines for his private life, too — he’s currently dating model Bella Hadid — he often leaves his listeners
guessing on what goes on behind his decadent lyrics.
Sam Smith (Saturday)
Grammy Award-winning singer Sam Smith will make his UAE debut when he headlines the Yasalam After-Race Concerts on Saturday. The British singer has two albums to his name — his 2014 debut, The Lonely Hour, and his 2017 follow-up, The Thrill
Of It All. Known for his emotive vocal performances, Smith has climbed the charts with hits such as Stay With Me, Money on My Mind and Too Good at Goodbyes.
Guns N’ Roses (Sunday)
Guns N’ Roses are heading back to the UAE to perform on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The gig comes just over a year after their debut Dubai performance. The Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child o’ Mine and Paradise City rockers put on a three-hour set at Dubai’s Autism Rocks Arena in 2017. This followed the band’s historic reunion tour in 2016, which ended a decades-long rift between frontman Axl Rose and guitarist Slash. The full band — including Duff McKagan on bass — will once again entertain the UAE, wrapping up a weekend of star-studded performances. —After-Race Concerts are open to race ticket holders. 3-day passes start from Dh2,500.
